An RGB controller must match both the LED strip and the power system. Start by identifying the strip technology and connector arrangement before comparing remotes or app features.
Strip type
Single-color, CCT, RGB, RGBW, and addressable strips use different signal and channel arrangements. A controller designed for one type is not automatically compatible with another.
Voltage and current
Match the controller input voltage to the power supply and strip. Confirm the total current or wattage remains within the controller rating, with appropriate safety margin.
Connector and polarity
Check pin count, polarity, common-anode or other circuit requirements, and connector style. Never force a mismatched connector.
Control method
Choose IR for direct line-of-sight control, RF for more flexible wireless use, Bluetooth for local mobile control, or Wi-Fi when supported connected features are needed.
